Sergei obtained his PhD in Physics in 2006 from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich) working on single particle optics under the direction of Vahid Sandoghdar. He joined the Applied Optics group in 2007 and is working on single biomolecule studies in optofluidic devices.

Dr. Zhigang Liu

Zhigang obtained his PhD from the University of Alberta working with Mark Freeman on ultrafast magnetization dynamics. He joined the group in December 2007 for his postdoctoral research, and is currently working on time-resolved magnetization dynamics of single nanomagnets.

Dr. Jiepeng Zhang

Jiepeng obtained his PhD in physics in 2008 from Florida International University working with Dr. Yifu Zhu on nonlinear optical effects manifested by electromagnetically induced transparency in cold atoms. He joined the group in 2008 and is currently working on single-photon nonlinear optics in integrated hollow-core waveguides.

Philip Measor

Philip is a PhD student in Electrical Engineering. He obtained his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from UC Santa Cruz in 2004. He received Dean's and Chancellor's Awards for undergraduate research for his senior thesis on optical studies of intersubband transitions in II-VI quantum dots and his work on the design of quantum well structures for antiresonant reflecting electron waveguides.

Mikhail Rudenko

Mikhail is a PhD student in Electrical Engineering. He obtained his B.E. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Bauman Moscow State Technical University in 2005. His research interests include integration of nanopores and liquid-core optical waveguides for single-molecule sensing. Mikhail received a Young Investigator Award at the Photonics West Conference in San Jose in 2007.

Bin Wu

Bin is a PhD student in Electrical Engineering. She obtained her B.E. in Optoelectronics from Tianjin University and a M.S. in Optics and Photonics from Imperial College (London). Her current research interests include single photon quantum optics in integrated waveguides.

Rebekah Brandt

Bekah is a PhD student in Electrical Engineering. She obtained her B.S. in Physics from the University of Chicago before working in industry for a few years. Her current research interests include time-resolved magneto-optics and near-field optics.

Mark Oehlberg

Mark is a Masters student in Electrical Engineering. He obtained his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from UC Santa Cruz in 2005. He has previously worked on implantable electronics and is currently working on laser stabilization, electromagnetically induced transparency, and integrated waveguides.

Trevor Vogt

Trevor is a junior in Electrical Engineering. His interests include materials engineering, optics, analog electrical design, and machine fabrication of parts. He is currently working on developing a topic for his senior thesis.

Kevin Louchis        

Kevin is a junior in Electrical Engineering. His interests include optical waveguides and materials engineering.

Samantha Downey

Samantha is a senior in Bioengineering. Her interests include the use of optical waveguides in the detection of molecules and micro-organisms and the development of advanced micro-endoscopes for multi modal imaging of tissue.

Reed Johnson

Reed has just completed his freshman year in Physics at UC Berkeley. He works in the Applied Optics group to gain experience in experimental research. His interests include measurements on optical waveguides, optofluidics, and optical microscopy.
